MV Rotorua II Refurbishment Boosts Coastguard CapabilitY

Rotorua Lakes Coastguard’s rescue vessel, MV Rotorua II, has received a significant upgrade, thanks in part to funding from Rotorua Trust.

The refurbishment project has significantly improved the vessel’s performance, safety, and reliability, ensuring it remains a vital asset for lake rescues in the region.

    Key Upgrades and Benefits

    New Engines Installed

The 10-year-old outboards were replaced with new Yamaha 4-Stroke engines, boosting performance and ensuring operational reliability for years to come.

    Improved Safety Standards

Structural and mechanical issues were addressed, reducing risks and creating a safer environment for the volunteer crew.

    Extended Lifespan

General wear and tear was repaired, extending the vessel’s service life and reducing the need for future overhauls.

    Local Partnerships Strengthened

The project deepened relationships with local providers, including Telfer Marine, Striker Marine, Canmac Upholstery, Explore Boats, and Prime Marine Surveyors.

    A Vessel Renewed

The result is a vessel that feels almost brand new—more efficient, safer, and ready to serve the community. Rotorua Trust is proud to support projects like this that directly enhance community safety.
