Storytime Foundation’s First Thousand Days Evaluation revealed that the initiative had positive impacts. Storytime promotes early literacy and strengthens family bonds through offering free storytime sessions at local libraries and community centres. It aims to foster a love for reading among young children and their families by involving parents in storytelling sessions. By involving parents in the storytelling sessions, the project aims to create a supportive environment for children’s literacy development at home and in the community.
A recent evaluation by Alex Woodley, Annalise Myers, and Erica Roberts from Point & Associates in June 2023 highlighted the impacts of Storytime Foundation’s First Thousand Days program.
The evaluation revealed that the program positively influenced children’s early development and well-being. The comprehensive assessment demonstrated improvements in key areas such as early childhood education, health outcomes, and family support.
Through these sessions, children can express themselves and engage in storytelling, further enriching their early literacy experiences. Families have expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to bond over books and stories. “Storytime has become a cherished part of our week. It’s incredible to see our children’s excitement for reading grow,” shared one parent, echoing the community’s appreciation for the program.
The Rotorua Trust has contributed funding to Storytime and other initiatives that enrich the well-being of our community’s tamariki and whānau.
