A total of 41 local secondary school students have this month been presented with a Tertiary Study Award thanks to the Rotorua Energy Charitable Trust. Each student’s Tertiary Study Award is valued at $2,000 per year for a maximum tenure of four years.
Trust deputy chairman Jo-Anne La Grouw said the Trust is pleased to have offered nearly 900 Tertiary Study Awards worth $6 million since the scheme began in 1996.
“These awards are available to students who have attended a secondary school in the Rotorua District and are going into full time undergraduate studies at any New Zealand Tertiary Institution.”
Awards are made based on each applicants’ academic achievement, leadership skills and community involvement, which includes their involvement in school activities.
Mrs La Grouw said the selection panel has this year, once again, been very impressed by the calibre of the applications.
“The quality of applications we see coming through is largely due to a team of people at each secondary school working very hard to support students at their respective schools,” she said.
