Empowering Rangatahi: The Impact of the Graeme Dingle Career Navigator Program in Rotorua

Graeme Dingle Career Navigator has positively impacted the lives of many rangatahi in Rotorua. One graduate highlighted, “I gained a lot of knowledge and confidence within myself through this process. If anyone had asked me where I would have been four years ago, I would never have thought that I would be enrolled in a tertiary program.”

Receiving a grant from Rotorua Trust enabled the Career Navigator program to reach over 300 young rangatahi from Western Heights School and Lakes High School in Rotorua. Graeme Dingle’s research indicates that Career Navigator increases career self-efficacy, social self-efficacy, and employment hope and decreases social interaction anxiety. Participants in Rotorua were primarily aged between 14 and 16, with 53% identifying as Māori and 37% as NZ European. The program’s ability to reach and positively impact these rangatahi provides them with the support and guidance needed to pursue their academic and career goals.
